Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team fell in four games to St. Norbert College in the Midwest Conference Championship match at Flood Arena on Friday night.
SNC took the match 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22.
The 300 or so fans, the largest crowd of the season for Buccaneer Volleyball, first saluted Buccaneer senior Esther Chiu and then never stopped yelling.
The Green Knights took control of the first set late, scoring the final six points after Beloit had a 20-19 lead.
In the second set, the score was tied at 12-all before the Buccaneers went on a 10-4 run to grab a six-point advantage at 22-16. They closed out the set win by scoring three of the next five points.
In set #3 SNC again got control late, rallying from a 20-19 deficit to score six of the final seven points.
In the deciding set, it was again nip and tuck the entire way until St. Norbert had a three-point spurt to go up 23-21. Beloit pulled to within one at 23-22 but SNC scored the final three points for the win and the MWC Championship.
Laura Toth led the attack with 18 kills, hitting at a .400 clip, while Tess Jacquez had 11 and Mary Parker nine. Caitlin O'Leary had 43 set assists while Toth also added a pair of service aces. Chiu had 26 digs and Parker 22 while McKenzie Falker had 13.
The Bucs had nine blocks as a team, led by Toth and Katherine Miller with three each.
Beloit now prepares for next Friday's semifinal match against an as-yet undetermined opponent at either 4:30 or 7:00 p.m. in De Pere. The semifinal winners play for the title on Saturday afternoon, with the Tournament Champion earning the Conference's automatic NCAA Division III Tournament bid.
