Towns Wins Javelin, Moen Second in Discus at MWC Outdoors

De Pere, WI -- Travis Towns and Erika Moen both earned All-Conference honors for the Beloit College Track & Field team as the Bucs finished Day One of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships at St. Norbert College.

Towns won the Javelin with a throw of 171' 7", becoming the first Beloit Conference Champion for the Men since Dan Marsh, his coach, won the Javelin in 2007.

Moen finished second in the Discus for the third straight time in her career.  She was also the Conference runner-up in 2010 and 2011. 

The Buccaneer Women stood sixth after the first day while the Men were eighth.  Monmouth College led both races.

Also earning points for the Women were Amani Edwards, who was fourth in the Discus and fifth in the Hammer, and Elizabeth Peckham, who was sixth in the Pole Vault.

On the Men's side, Mateo Lauersdorf earned the only other points for Beloit with an eighth in the Javelin.

Qualifying for the Finals in Trials run on Friday were Karly Clippinger in the 400m Hurdles, qualifying eighth; and Kenny Williams, qualifying fourth in the 400m Hurdles and fifth in the 400m.

The majority of the Finals will be run on Saturday.  The Men's Hammer begins at 9:00 a.m. with the rest of the action beginning at 11:00 a.m.
