East Peoria, IL -- The Beloit College Softball team dropped a pair of games on day two of the Midwest Conference Softball Classic on Saturday, falling to Cornell College 1-0 in eight innings and 5-0 to Knox College.
Against Knox, the Prairie Fire scored unearned runs in the third and fifth innings and then added three tallies in the seventh to ice it. The Bucs, who finished with six hits, had their biggest threat of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, loading the bases with two outs, including singles by Jordyn Ciochon and Tara Grode, before KC got the final out for the win.
In the opener vs. Cornell, the Buccaneers had the bases loaded in the fifth on an Emily Dorjath walk and bunt singles from McKayla Martin and Ashleigh Gasparola with one out but couldn't get a run in. Cornell won the game in the eighth with an unearned run on an error, a passed ball, a strikeout and a double to right. Jen Zucker struck out 11 in the game.
Beloit finishes up the Classic on Sunday with games against Lake Forest College at 10:00 a.m. and Grinnell College at 2:00 p.m.
