Kissimmee, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team finished up their 2013 Spring Trip to the Rebel Spring Games with a pair of close losses on Friday, falling to Roger Williams University of Rhode Island 2-1 and Webster University 4-2.

Jen Zucker tied a Beloit College single-game record in the opener against Roger Williams, striking out 14 batters.  The record was originally set on March 12, 1996, when Hall of Honor member Jamie Cassette accomplished the feat against Wilmington College of Ohio.

In that first game today, the Bucs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Tala Cornell led off the inning with a long drive to centerfield which the centerfielder dropped for an error.  She advanced to second on Ashleigh Gasparola's sacrifice hit.  She moved to third on Jordyn Ciochon's groundout and kept going when the first baseman's throw bounced past third.

The Buccaneers threatened again in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases on singles by Mikayla Martin and Kandace Fox and a fielder's choice by Bethany Stavrakas.  But RWU got the last two outs on a liner back to the pitcher and a groundout.

Zucker was in total command through the first six innings, striking out 11 and not allowing a base-runner.  But the Hawks broke thru in the top of the seventh, combining three singles with an error to plate two unearned runs.  Cornell singled to open the bottom of the inning and got to third with two out but a pop-up ended the game.

Against Webster the Gorloks scored three times in the bottom of the second on four hits and held that 3-0 lead till the fourth, when the Bucs got on the board with a pair of runs.  Fox tripled to right field to knock in Emily Dorjath, who had reached on an error, and Tara Grode singled in Fox to make it 3-2.

Webster added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a two-out base hit and the Buccaneers went down in order in the seventh.

Martin had three hits on the day while Fox and Salm each had two.  Zucker struck out one in relief in the second game to give her 15 for the day.

Beloit opens its Northern schedule next Saturday at the Strong Complex Softball Field when they host Concordia University Chicago and Loras College in a triangular.  Action begins at 11:00 a.m.
