Kissimmee, FL – The Beloit College Softball team showed some power in their first games of the 2013 season but dropped a pair of games on Sunday, falling to Bluffton University 9-4 and Simpson College 9-1 at the Rebel Spring Games.
Against Simpson, who sit just outside the NFCA Top 25 poll, The Storm scored once in the bottom of the first, three times in the second and once more in the third to go on top 5-0. Megan Salm got the Buccaneers on the board in the top mof the fifth with a solo home run to right field. But SC scored three runs in the fifth and once more in the bottom half of the sixth to end the game early.
Besides Salm’s home run, Mikayla Martin and Kandace Fox also had singles.
In the season-opener against Bluffton, the Beavers scored three times in both the top of the first and second innings and added two runs in the fourth to lead 8-0. Beloit got things going in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs. Fox scored on a wild pitch for the first run and then Salm scored Emily Dorjath, who had doubled, with a triple down the right field line.
In the bottom of the fifth, Fox reached on a fielder’s choice before Dorjath unloaded to left field for a two-run home run and cut the Bluffton lead in half. But that was as close as the Bucs would get as BU closed out the scoring in the sixth with a single run.
The Buccaneers look to turn around Sunday’s results with two more games on Monday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m. EST against Thomas More Co
