Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team made it a very happy Senior Day on Sunday at the Strong Complex Field with a sweep of Ripon College in the final games of the 2012 season, winning 1-0 and 4-2.
Seniors Sarah Stariha, Laura Burne, McKenzie Falker, Katy Sandt, Lisa McClure, Kandace Fox and Kourtney Kingslien said their goodbyes to the program on a winning note.
In the opener, Sandt was in total command, striking out 12 and scattering four hits for her third shutout of the season. Tara Grode provided the only run she'd need with a two-out RBI single in the third, scoring Falker with the only run.
Ripon loaded the bases with no one out in the sixth but Sandt struck out three straight to end the threat. RC went in order in the seventh.
In the nightcap the Red Hawks got on the board first in the fourth inning on a solo home run. But Beloit responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it up, with Emily Dorjath squeezing in Grode.
The Buccaneers scored three unearned runs in the sixth to seal the win. Kingslien drove in Grode with the lead run before McClure added some insurance with a two-run single, plating Fox and Kingslien.
Ripon got one run back in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate with one out but a foul out and strikeout ended the game.
Sandt struck out nine to finish the day with 21. It also closed her career with a record 475. Kingslien had two hits in the game.
