Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team got some tough pitching and clutch hitting in game two of their Midwest Conference doubleheader at Lawrence University on Saturday and the result was a split with a 1-0 win. Lawrence took game one 9-1.
Katy Sandt threw a three-hitter, striking out five and walking one, and Emily Dorjath hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to provide all the runs Sandt would need.
The Vikings left two runners on base in both the fourth and sixth innings for the biggest threats to Sandt.
Tara Grode had two hits in the game.
In the opener, LU scored once in the second, four times in the third and once in the fourth to jump up 6-0. Beloit got their run in the fifth inning when Lisa McClure hit a sacrifice fly to knock in Dorjath, who led off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Megan Salm.
The Vikings closed out the game early with a three-run sixth inning.
The Buccaneers now have a week off before hosting Ripon College in the season finale next Saturday at the Strong Softball Complex Field. It'll be Senior Day for the Bucs. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
