Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team opened Midwest Conference North Division play with a pair of losses to St. Norbert College at the Strong Complex Softball Field on Saturday, falling 7-4 and 3-2.
In game two, the Buccaneers battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie it up before SNC plated the winning run in the top of the seventh.
The Green Knights scored two unearned runs in the third inning, putting together three hits, two Beloit errors and a wild pitch to jump on top. The Bucs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning when Katy Sandt tripled and Tara Grode followed with a run-scoring groundout. They tied it in the fourth when Emily Dorjath hit a two-out double to score Kourtney Kingslien from first base.
After a quiet fifth and sixth St. Norbert got a two-out double in the seventh to grab the lead. Beloit went down in order in the bottom of the inning.
In the opener, SNC scored two runs in the second and held that lead until they tacked on four runs in the fifth to go up 6-0. The Buccaneers got on the board in the sixth with a pair of unearned runs. Kandace Fox knocked in Grode and Kingslien hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Praises Vega.
The Green Knights added a run in the seventh before Beloit rallied for two in the bottom of the inning. Sandt drove in Dorjath, who had singled, and Grode singled in Lisa McClure.
Grode had two hits in the game.
The Buccaneers hit the road for an extended stretch, beginning Thursday at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
