Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team wanted nothing to do with April Fools' gags on Sunday, sweeping Eureka College 5-0 and 6-1 at the Strong Complex Softball Field.
In game one Katy Sandt took care of things on the mound while the offense took advantage of several fielding miscues by the Red Devils, scoring three of their five runs unearned.
Emily Dorjath drove in the first run of the game in the fourth with a sacrifice bunt, scoring Kandace Fox unearned. Kourtney Kingslien then scored the second run of the inning on a botched rundown. Beloit added two runs in the fifth when Dorjath hit a two-run double to straight-away center while Praises Vega and McKenzie Falker, who both walked, scored.
The Buccaneers closed out the scoring in the sixth when Tara Grode knocked in Jen Scalze, unearned, with a groundout.
Sandt struck out seven while scattering three hits.
In game two, Eureka scored their lone run of the day, unearned in the second inning before Grode erased that lead with a three-run double in the bottom of the inning. Kingslien made it 5-1 in the third with a two-run, two-out single and then drove in the final run in the fourth with a two-out single.
Megan Salm got the mound win, scattering six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Besides Kingslien, Falker also had two hits in the game.
The Bucs look to keep their momentum going with a road doubleheader, playing at UW-Platteville on Wednesday. Action begins at 3:00 p.m.
