Kissimmee, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team earned their second split in three days at the Rebel Spring games Tuesday, topping Presentation College of South Dakota 11-7 in the opener before falling to Thomas More College of Kentucky 9-1.
Megan Salm got her first collegiate win on the mound and Kandace Fox and Kourtney Kingslien each drove in three runs in the win over Presentation.
The Bucs jumped on top in the first with a pair of runs, getting an RBI groundout by Fox and a run-scoring single by Kingslien. They added two more in the top of the third on Kingslien's second straight RBI single and when Tara Grode scored on the front end of a double steal. But the Saints tied it up at 4-all in the bottom of the third with one swing of the bat - a grand slam to left field.
Beloit answered in a big way in the fourth, plating six unearned runs. Fox had a two-run single while McKenzie Falker, Kingslien and Salm all added RBI hits. Presentation scored a solo run in the bottom of the inning to pull back within 10-5.
The Buccaneers tacked on another run in the fifth when Katy Sandt delivered a pinch-hit single to score Laura Byrne.
PC tried to put together a rally in the seventh, scoring twice and putting runners on second and third with one out but Salm got out of it with two groundouts to end the threat and the game.
In game two, Thomas More scored five times in the top of the first on just two hits to take charge early. They made it 7-0 in the third before the Bucs got their lone run of the game in the bottom of the inning when Grode knocked in Falker, who had doubled, with a single.
TMC ended the game early with two runs in the sixth.
Falker and Grode each had two hits in the game.
The Buccaneers have Wednesday off before getting back on the dirt Thursday for two more games, playing Hiram College and the University of Mount Union in the afternoon.
