Janesville, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team finished 2-3 at the MWC Softball Classic after goin 1-1 on Sunday's second and final day.
The Buccaneers defeated Knox College 2-0 on Sunday before falling to Illinois College 6-4 in the final game of the Classic.
Katy Sandt scattered four while striking out three and walking non in the complete-game shutout over Knox.
Beloit broke up a pitcher's dual in the top of the sixth when Laura Byrne plated Sarah Stariha, who had tripled, with a groundout. They added some insurance in the seventh when Kourtney Kingslien singled in Praises Vega, who reached on an error. Sandt retired the last seven in order for the shutout.
In the tough loss against Illinois College, the Bucs built a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth before the Lady Blues scored five times and then set down Beloit in order in the seventh for the win.
The Bucs took the lead in the second when Kandace Fox scored on an illegal pitch. IC tied it in the third but Beloit got two in the fourth, Vega scoring on a wild pitch and Kingslien singling in McKenzie Falker.
Kingslien scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning to make the lead 4-1 before Illinois College's big bottom of the inning.
Kingslien and Sandt each had two hits to lead the offense.
The Buccaneers have a little time off now following their nine-game week, next taking the field at Ripon College on Saturday for an MWC doubleheader before playing two at the University of Chicago on Sunday.
