Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team couldn't get past dropping a tough opener and fell twice to UW-Platteville on Thursday at the Strong Complex Softball Field 3-2 and 9-1.
The games were the last ones before Beloit plays at the MWC Classic in Janesville on Saturday and Sunday.
In the tight game one loss, UWP grabbed the lead in the second with an unearned run. The Buccaneers evened it up in the fourth when Kandace Fox drove in Tara Grode with a double,
After a scoreless fifth the Pioneers regained the lead on a solo home run in the sixth. But again Beloit came right back with the tying run in the bottom of the sixth when McKenzie Falker hit a two-single to score Sarah Stariha.
UW-Platteville scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh and the Bucs went in order in the bottom of the inning to end it.
Katy Sandt took the tough loss, allowing five hits and just two earned runs while striking out four and walking four.
In game two Beloit jumped on top in the firsr with an unearned run when Stariha, who reached on an error, scored on Tara Grode's ground out. But UWP put up five runs in a 10-batter second inning.
Platteville scored four more in the top of the fifth to end the contest early.
Kourtney Kingslien paced the Buccaneers with the only two hits for the team in the game.
The Buccaneers open play at the MWC Classic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday when they play Monmouth College. They play Grinnell College at 3:00 p.m. and Lake Forest College at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday they take on Knox College at 12:00 Noon before finishing up against Illinois College at 2:00 p.m.
