Beloit, WI -- Things started well for the Beloit College Softball team in their home opener on Saturday at the Strong Complex Softball Field. But things turned sour early in a 13-2 loss to Judson University.
The Bucs jumped out on top in the bottom of the first inning on Tara Grode's first career home run, a two-run shot that scored Sarah Stariha, who had singled. Kandace Fox also doubled in the inning.
But the lead was short-lived as the Eagles batted around and plated nine runs in the top of the second to take control of the contest.
Judson added another run in the third and three in the fourth to go up 13-2. Laura Byrne's leadoff double in the third was the lone Beloit hit after the opening inning.
The Buccaneers hit the road for their next game, playing a doubleheader at Wheaton College on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
