Kissimmee, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team shook off a tough 6-5, extra-innings loss to Albion College in their first game of the day to top Wesley College 6-1 in the nightcap for a split on day two of their Spring trip.
Beloit was in control from the start against Wesley. Tara Grode knocked in Sarah Stariha with the game's first run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout. Grode and Kandace Fox scored unearned runs in the third to make it 3-0 and then Grode added a second RBI, again plating Stariha, in the fourth.
Laura Byrne had a run-scoring groundout and Grode an RBI single in the sixth to close out the Buccaneer scoring. Wesley scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tess Jacquez got the complete game win, giving up just four hits. Grode, Fox and Stariha each had three hits while Praises Vega had two.
In the game-one loss, the Bucs battled back to force the extra frame.
After Albion scored in the top of the first Beloit tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Stariha scored an unearned run on Grode's RBI bunt. The Britons scored three times in the fifth before Beloit got one of the runs back on Vega's single, scoring Grode, to make it 4-2.
The Buccaneers evened it up in the seventh with a pair of unearned runs, Byrne and Stariha scoring.
AC scored twice in the top of the eighth before the Bucs started their comeback. Lisa McClure had an RBI double to score McKenzie Falker and make it 6-5. McClure advanced to third but was stranded there to end the game.
Sandt took the tough loss, striking out four. Grode and Vega each had two hits and two RBI's.
The Buccaneers have an off day on Tuesday before getting back on the field Wednesday when they play Thomas More College of Kentucky and Aurora University of Illinois in the morning.
