Beloit, WI -- Six runs down. All it did was fire up the Beloit College Softball team on Monday against Rockford College. And the fire led to a 7-6, walkoff win in game two for a split of their doubleheader. Rockford won game one 6-2.
Lisa McClure singled in Katy Sandt with one out in the bottom of the eighth with the winning run to secure the split.
RC had jumped on top with three runs in the first inning and added three more in the fifth to lead 6-0.
The Bucs started their comeback in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to cut their deficit in half. Sarah Stariha singled in Beloit's first run with her third hit of the game and Laura Byrne followed with a run-scoring double. Byrne then scored on Kourtney Kingslien's two-out base hit with run number three.
Beloit tied it up with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Byrne tripled in Stariha and then Byrne scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game. Again with two out, Kingslien singled to tie it up, scoring McKenzie Falker, setting the stage for McClure's game-winner in the eighth.
Stariha finished with four hits in the game. Allegera Stanton got the win, her second, going all eight innings.
In game one, the Regents scored an unearned run to take the lead in the third and added five more tallies, three of them unearned, in the fourth. Beloit scored one in the bottom of the fourth on Kingslien's single and got their final run in the sixth when McClure scored on a wild pitch.
Tess Jacquez had two hits in the game.
The Buccaneers are next in action Thursday at the Strong Field when they host Ripon College in a key Midwest Conference doubleheader. It'll be Senior Day, honoring the Bucs' lone senior, Nicole Oddo. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
