Bucs Win Game One, Fall in Game Two for Split at Lawrence

Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team took game one of a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Lawrence University 9-2 on Saturday but dropped the second game by a 9-0 score.

In the opener the Bucs scored seven unearned runs in the opening inning on the strength of three Viking errors. Tess Jacquez had the big hit of the inning with a two-run double while Lisa McClure added an RBI single.

Lawrence cut into the lead with two unearned runs in the third to make it a 7-2 ballgame. The Buccaneers then closed out the scoring with a single run in the sixth on Sarah Stariha's RBI single and another unearned run in the seventh when McClure scored on a passed ball.

Katy Sandt got the mound win, giving up six hit and the two unearned runs while striking out eight and walking four. Sandt finished with four hits. Jacquez, Allegera Stanton and Nicole Oddo each had two safeties.

In game two LU put up three runs in the first, four in the second and two in the third to put the game away early. Beloit managed just two hits, fifth-inning singles by Kourtney Kingslien and Jacquez.

The Buccaneers step away from MWC play on Monday when they host Rockford College at the Strong Complex Softball Field on Faculty and Staff Recognition Day. Action begins at 3:00 p.m.
