Janesville, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team finished the Midwest Conference Softball 3-2 after splitting two games on Sunday, falling to Lake Forest College 10-2 before topping Illinois College 5-4.
The Foresters struck for five runs in the second inning of the first game and then added five more in the fourth. The Bucs got on the board in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Nicole Oddo but that was as close as they would get as the game was called by the eight-run rule.
In the Illinois College game, the Lady Blues scored an unearned run in the top of the second to grab the lead but Beloit responded with three in the bottom of the inning. Lisa McClure had an RBI fielder's choice followed by Tess Jacquez's run-scoring single. McClure then scored from third on an error.
IC tied it up at 3-all in the third with a pair of unearned runs and then took the lead in the fourth.
But the Buccaneers came back to take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs. Sarah Stariha tied it up with an RBI single that scored Oddo and then McKenzie Falker knocked in what proved to be the winning run with a base hit to score Stariha.
Illinois College had a runner in scoring position in the sixth and seventh but couldn't get them in to give Beloit the win.
Falker and Stariha finished the five-game Classic with six hits to lead the team while Kourtney Kingslien and McClure each had four. Katy Sandt went 3-1 on the weekend, striking out 22. Her first-inning K against Lake Forest was the 200th of her career.
The Bucs return to MWC North action on Wednesday when they travel to Carroll University for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
