Kissimmee, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team got their 2010 season underway at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday, dropping a pair of games.
The Bucs fell to the College of St. Benedict 12-5 and were no-hit by Ferrum College 11-0.
Against CSB, the Blazers jumped on top 4-0 in the first inning and added another run in the second to make it 5-0.
But the Bucs rallied with a five-run second to tie it up. Sarah Stariha got her second hit in as many at bats, plating two runs, and then Katy Sandt followsed with another two-run single. Kourtney Kingslien tied it up with the Buccaneers' third straight hit in the inning.
St. Benedict responded with one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to close out the scoring.
Stariha and Laura Byrne each had two hits. Sandt went the distance on the mound, striking out five while walking two.
In the second game the Panthers scored three in the first, five in the second, and three in the third while three Ferrum pitchers held the Buccaneers hitless. Allegera Stanton took the loss on the mound for Beloit.
The squad has two more scheduled for Tuesday, taking on Widener University at 3:00 p.m. EST and Alverno College at 5:00 p.m.
