Dubuque, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team hit a program milestone on Wednesday in a 21-9 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win at the University of Dubuque, recording their tenth win of the season in their second season of existence.
The Buccaneers used a big first half to propel them to a comfortable 16-6 lead at the break. Holding a 3-2 lead after six-plus minutes on Beloit goals from Hannah Drexler, Libby Storrick and Sarah Pipal, the Bucs went on a five-goal run that put them up 8-2 just past the midway point of the opening half. Goals by Pipal, Drexler, Storrick, Drexler and Sara Fithian made up the run. UD score two of the next three goals to pull back with 9-4 but Beloit then rattled off six straight scores to make it 15-4 with 4:34 left. Michelle Dillon, Storrick and Fithian each had two goals in the run. After the Spartans scored back-to-back goals Fithian closed out the first half with a score 33 seconds before the buzzer.
Fithian's goal in the final minute of the first half started another Buccaneer run, this one five goals, as Beloit built their lead to 20-6 with just under 20 minutes left. Marie Bonine, Dillon, Storrick and Bonine again accounted for the second-half side of the run. Dubuque scored three straight over a six-minute span before Bonine closed out the scoring five seconds before the final horn.
Storrick and Fithian both finished with five goals, Storrick adding three assists, while Drexler, Dillon and Bonine all scored three and Pipal two. Bonine had two saves in net in the opening half and Celeste Jenkins four in the second 30 minutes.
Beloit closes out the regular season on Sunday against undefeated and MWLC-leading Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Faceoff is at 1:00 p.m.
