Naperville, IL -- The Beloit College Softball team couldn't shake the slump they're in on Tuesday at North Central College, falling 8-2 and 11-3.
In game one, Beloit scored in the top of the second for the game's first run when Mikayla Martin doubled in Megan Salm, who led off the inning with a double. NCC cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the inning and then took the lead for good with three in the third. The Buccaneers made it 4-2 in the fourth when Bethany Stavrakas' infield single scored pinch-runner Alesia Hunter. But that was as close as they'd get while the Cardinals scored three times in the bottom of the fourth and once more in the fifth to close out the scoring.
Stavrakas finished with three hits in the game while Salm and Martin both had two.
In the second game Beloit again scored first, with Tara Grode's RBI groundout plating Tala Cornell, who led off the game with a double. But North Central scored three in the bottom of the inning, two in the second and and one in both the third and fourth to move up 7-1. The Bucs added a pair of runs in the fifth to pull back within 7-3. Grode doubled in Cornell, who hit her second double of the game, and Salm singled in Grode to close out the Buccaneer scoring. NCC then scored four in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.
The Buccaneers now turn their attention to Midwest Conference play, opening the league season vs. Ripon College in a doubleheader at the Strong Complex Softball Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
