Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team couldn't turn around the tough stretch they're going through Sunday, falling to Albion College 12-7 in a non-conference game at Strong Stadium.
The Britons scored first less than a minute in but Sara Fithian tied it 30 seconds later unassisted. AC then scored two unanswered before Beloit duplicated the back-to-back scores, the first coming from Fithian and the second from Michelle Dillon, assisted by Libby Storrick, to tie it at 3-all. The back and forth continued as Fithian scored her third goal after an Albion score and then got goal number four four minutes later, again after AC scored, to keep the game tied at 5-5.
Albion broke away from the tie with three goals in the next 3:17 to grab an 8-5 lead late in the opening half. Cate Rubin got the Buccaneers within 8-6 at the break with an unassisted score at 1:32.
Only five goals were scored in the second half, unfortunately four of them by Albion. The Britons opened the half with three straight scores before Storrick got a free position goal at the 12:50 mark. But AC played keep-away for nearly the rest of the half, giving the Bucs very few chances, and closed out the scoring with 1:48 left.
Marine Bonine made six saves in net for Beloit.
The Buccaneers look to get things going in the right direction on Wednesday with a road Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game at Loras College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
