Naperville, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team were the victims of a fast start in both halves by North Central College in their season-opener Saturday, leading to a 16-8 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference loss.
NCC scored the first six goals of the game before Michelle Dillon, off an assist by Libby Storrick, got the Bucs on the board. Storrick followed with a free position goal and, after a seventh Cardinal score, Sara Fithian had another free position score to pull Beloit within 7-3 at the half.
But North Central left no doubt to open the second half, scoring seven straight to make it 14-3. Storrick stopped the run with an unassisted goal. Fithian got her second goal, assisted by Storrick before Sarah Pipal scored on a free position shot to make it 15-6. After NCC scored their final goal Storrick tallied her third and Cate Rubin closed out the scoring, assisted by Storrick.
Marie Bonine made 15 saves in net for the Buccaneers.
There's little time for Beloit to dwell on the game as they host Albion College at Strong Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game. Action begins at 1:00 p.m.
