Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team got themselves in an early hole and couldn't climb out in an 85-65 loss to Monmouth College in Flood Arena on Saturday.
The Fighting Scots raced out to a 17-7 lead eight minutes into the contest. The Buccaneers got back within seven on a Laura Panicali three-pointer and were still within 10 with 6:18 left in the half. But MC went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to open a 19-point advantage. Jenna Larsen's three-pointer at the halftime buzzer made it 43-31, Monmouth, at the break, completing a 7-0 run for Beloit to close the half.
The Bucs were back within nine two-plus minutes into the second half before a 14-4 run by the Scots made it 60-41 at the 14:38 mark. Beloit never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
Larsen led Beloit with a career-high 18 points, 13 in the first half, and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Lana Wieseman had 13 points before fouling out late and Panicali added 10. Lauren McNanna chipped in nine points.
The Buccaneers finished with 29 turnovers while shooting 42.2% from the field.
Beloit has a couple of days before making the trip to Ripon College on Tuesday to battle the Red Hawks. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
