Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team made sure their stocking didn't contain any coal, scoring a 75-69 win over Knox College on Thursday night in Flood Arena, their second straight Midwest Conference victory.
The Buccaneers seemed to grab control midway through the opening half with a 15-3 run that gave them a 27-15 lead at the 7:12 mark. But Knox chipped away with a 9-2 run over the next five minutes to pull back within five. Beloit led 33-26 at the break.
The Bucs pushed their lead up to 10 five minutes into the second half at 45-35 but again KC kept whittling away. After Beloit built an 11-point 58-47 advantage with 8:07 remaining the Prairie Fire went on a 17-8 run that pulled them within two at 66-64 with 3:03 left. But seven free throws down the stretch kept Beloit comfortable as they closed out the win.
James Lazarcik had a career-high 31 points, 18 in the second half, while also grabbing 13 rebounds. He was 13-16 from the field, 8-10 in the second 20 minutes.
Chris Bremner and Langston Booker each added nine points while Steve Dowden grabbed a career-best seven rebounds.
The Buccaneers have some time to celebrate before flying to California for their next two games, playing at the University of La Verne on Sunday, December 29, and at the University of Redlands the next day. Both games tip at 2:00 p.m. Pacific time.
