Ripon, WI -- Lauren McNanna, a senior guard for the Beloit College Women's Basketball team from Yorkville, Illinois (Newark), and Steve McAfee, Jr., a sophomore wing for the Men's Basketball team from Chicago (Urban Prep Academy-Englewood) were both named Midwest Conference Player of the Week in their respective sports after big games last week.
McNanna scored 33 points, the second-highest scoring output in Buccaneer history behind Nancy Habetler's 34 against Mt. Mary on February 3, 1981, in a 95-67 win over Grinnell College Saturday in Flood Arena. She made 9-16 shots from the field and 12-13 free throws while also adding a game-high five assists. Earlier in the week she scored 20 points, including six three-pointers, which ties for the second-most in history, in a 77-58 loss to Ripon College in Flood. On the season she is averaging 17.3 points per contest.
McAfee scored 48 points, the fourth-highest single-game total in Buccaneer history, in a 128-120 loss to Grinnell College in Flood on Saturday. He was 20-28 from the field, the second-most field goals ever made, and 8-13 from the free throw line. He also grabbed ten rebounds. He averages 24.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the season.
The Buccaneer Men host UW-Whitewater on Tuesday night in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff while the Women play at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, on Wednesday night with action beginning at 5:30 p.m.
