November 26, 2013 at 9:57 pm

James LazarcikBeloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team was excited about their home opener on Tuesday night in Flood Arena.  But visiting Ripon College had different ideas.  An early spurt by the Red Hawks led to a 76-60 loss for the Buccaneers in their first game of the year in the Midwest Conference.

The Bucs never led in the contest as RC busted away from a close game early on with a 22-10 seven-minute run that opened a 27-14 lead midway through the first 20 minutes.  Beloit never got closer than seven the rest of the half and trailed 41-31 at the break.

The teams traded baskets for the most part of the first six minutes of the second half before the Red Hawks put it away with an 18-10 run to lead 72-55 with just over four minutes left.

James Lazarcik hit 10 of 16 shots from the field and finished with a game-high 21 points.  Tyler Butke had 12, ten in the second half.  Chris Bremner dished out six assists.  Beloit shot 50% from the field for the game (26-52).

After Thanksgiving the Bucs return to Flood on Saturday for a meeting with the high-scoring Pioneers of Grinnell College.  Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
