Grinnell/Mt. Vernon, IA -- The Beloit College Volleyball team certainly didn't enjoy their two-match trip to Iowa over the weekend, falling 3-0 at Grinnell College on Friday night and at 22nd-ranked Cornell College 3-0 on Saturday.
In the Cornell match, the Rams won 25-12, 25-11, 25-14 in showing why they're one of the top 25 teams in the nation and the defending Midwest Conference Champions. Taylor Lewis had six kills to lead the Bucs with Molly Schulting getting five. Carolyn Stransky had eight set assists and Julianne Gruenhagen 13 digs.
In a close match on Friday night Beloit fell 25-21, 25-19, 25-18. In set one the Bucs were within 22-21 before the Pioneers scored the last three points. In the second set GC pulled away from an 18-18 tie with seven of the final eight points. In the final set it was 17-16, Grinnell, before an 8-2 run finished it up.
Lewis had eight kills and Schulting six in the match. Stransky made 20 set assists. Gruenhagen had nine digs and Stransky eight and Schulting added three block assists.
The Buccaneers have the week to regroup before heading to St. Norbert College on Friday night for the beginning of another road doubleheader weekend. They play at Lawrence University on Saturday.
