With an eye towards sun and drier fields, three Beloit College teams are prepared to head South for Spring Trips.
Dave DeGeorge enters his 23rd season with the Buccaneer Baseball squad, opening their 2013 season with eight games as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invite. The Bucs celebrate the first pitch of the season against Loras College of Iowa at 2:00 p.m. CST on Sunday, March 3, in Winter Haven, Florida. They will also play single games against Eastern Mennonite University of Virginia, St. Vincent College of Pennsylvania, and Penn State Altoona and doubleheaders against Coe College of Iowa and Becker College of Massachusetts. After getting back North they have some time off before playing a doubleheader at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee on March 23 and then open their home season at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium with two games against Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 24.
Kim Zarling begins her sixth season with the Buccaneer Softball team, who will play ten games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. Beloit opens up against Bluffton University of Ohio on Sunday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. CST and then take on Simpson College of Iowa later that day. They also play Concordia University Chicago, Thomas More College of Kentucky, Widener University and Westminster College of Pennsylvania, Roger Williams College of Rhode Island and Webster University of Missouri. Highlighting the schedule is a pair of nationally-ranked opponents on Tuesday, March 5, when the Bucs play #6 Roanoke College of Virginia at 2:00 p.m. CST followed by #13 Trine University of Indiana at 4:00 p.m. After completing the trip the squad has a short window before their Northern opener, hosting Concordia University Chicago and Loras College on Saturday, March 16, at the Strong Stadium Softball Field.
Bob Dignazio leads the Buccaneer Men’s Lacrosse team down South for three games as they continue their inaugural season. Beloit, which was nipped at Fontbonne University 10-8 last Sunday in the program’s first-ever game, will play at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, March 3. They then head to Georgia where they will play at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta on Wednesday, March 6, and at Piedmont College in Demorest on Saturday, March 9. Once back up North, they play at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, on Wednesday, March 13, before their home opener at Strong Stadium on Saturday, March 16, against DePauw University at 1:00 p.m.
