Women and Men Both 6th after Day 1 at MWC Championships; Men's 200 Free Relay Sets School Record

Grinnell, IA -- Both the Women's and Men's Beloit College Swimming & Diving teams stand sixth at the end of day 1 at the Midwest Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, being held at Grinnell College.

The Men's 200 Free Relay of Will McAneny, Austin Smith, John Kamada and Greg Schalla made the biggest news of the day for the Buccaneers, setting a new school record during Friday morning's prelims.  The group's 1:29.84 broke the record of 1:30.72 set in 2008.  They were seventh in Friday's finals.

McAnany had the top individual finish of the day for Beloit, coming in seventh in the 50 Free.  Anna Freyfogle was eighth in 1m Diving.

The Women's 200 Free Relay of Haleigh Thomas, Dana Olesch, Cherrelle Phon and Shaunte Moss finished sixth, as did the Women's 400 Medley Relay of Emma Canny, Moss, Olesch and Thomas.  The Men's 400 Medley Relay of Schalla, Kamada, Smith and McAneny was eighth.

The Championships begin day two with prelims on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
