Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team got a big Midwest Conference win on Wednesday night in Flood Arena with Ahmad Shamsid-Deen's jumper with 5.8 seconds left the deciding blow in a 65-61 win over Ripon College.
After Shamside-Deen's basket put the Bucs up 62-61 an offensive foul by Ripon and a bench technical, with two free throws by James Lazarcik, sealed it. Chris Bremner added a free throw with one second left for the final score.
Beloit led 14-7 just over six minutes into the game before RC came storming back with a 10-2 run to take a one-point lead midway through the half. The game stayed tight through the rest of the half, with the Bucs taking a 32-29 lead into the lockerroom.
The second half remained close through the first seven minutes before the Buccaneers broke away from a 39-all tie with a 10-3 run to move up 49-42 at 9:21. But the Red Hawks weren't done, answering with a 15-7 run over the next six minutes to move on top 57-56 with 3:10 left in regulation. RC moved up by three with 1:10 left before a Tyler Butke put-back pulled Beloit to within 61-60 with 46 seconds left, setting the stage for the hectic final seconds.
Grant Henricksen had a career-high 17 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Shamsid-Deen finished with ten points and four assists while both Butke and Lazarcik added nine points with six rebounds.
The Buccaneers have some time off before hitting the road next Tuesday to take on Lake Forest College. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
