Shooting Woes Hurt Buccaneers in Final Game of 2012

December 29, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Elmhurst, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team could never find their shooting touch in an 88-58 non-conference loss at Elmhurst College on Saturday afternoon, the final game of the 2012 portion of their '12-13 schedule.

The Bluejays came out hot, scoring the first 13 points of the game to put Beloit in a big hole early.  They got their biggest lead of the half with 1:03 remaining at 43-17 before taking a 45-21 advantage to the lockerroom.

The Bucs responded in the first seven minutes of the second half with a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 16 at 49-35.  But EC took control from that point, gradually building their lead with what ended as a 26-10 run over nine minutes to lead 75-45 with 4:55 remaining.  Beloit got no closer than 18 points with 8:32 left.

A major issue in the loss was 16.7% shooting from the field in the opening half and 27.6% for the game while misfiring on all 11 of their three-point attempts.

Lana Wieseman led the Buccaneers with 21 points while Lauren McNanna had 14.  Kandace Fox had a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Beloit has little time to celebrate the New Year, getting back into Midwest Conference play on Wednesday, January 2, at Grinnell College.  Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
