Lexington, KY -- It what has become a tradition for the Beloit College Volleyball team, the 2013 squad was awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2013 season.
The award, which was initiated in 1992, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the most recent season by maintaining a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average as a team. There were a record 676 teams recognized overall, including 126 teams honored in NCAA Division III, also a new record.
The Bucs, under head coach Dawn Redd, who begins her eighth season in less than a month, were one of four Midwest Conference teams honored, along with Cornell, Grinnell and Monmouth. Beloit was one of seven NCAA Division III teams in the state of Wisconsin honored.
The Buccaneers begin their 2014 season on Friday, August 29, when they host Alverno College in the first match of the annual Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena. Action that day begins at 2:30 p.m.
