Grinnell, IA – Beloit College sophomore pitcher Ryan Kaveney and junior first baseman Alex Lawrence were both named to the 2014 All-Midwest Conference Baseball team, as voted on by league coaches. The squad was released by the Conference Office today.
Kaveney, from Cary, Illinois (Cary-Grove) finished the season 3-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched. He struck out 72 while walking just 13. His 72 strikeouts were the second-most in a season in Beloit history while his ERA was the third-lowest in history. He had three double-digit strikeout games, including 14 against St. Norbert on April 19 at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium, which tied the all-time mark. He led the MWC in strikeouts, innings pitched and runs allowed while finishing second in ERA. He was the MWC Pitcher of the Week on April 7.
Lawrence, from Waukesha, Wisconsin (West) led the team in hitting with a .388 average and 26 RBIs, which shared the team lead. He held or shared the team lead in seven different offensive categories and was second in three others. His 11 doubles were fourth in the MWC while his batting average was eighth along with the eighth-most hits. He was the MWC Player of the Week on March 17.
The Bucs went 15-18 overall, including 6-10 in the MWC for third place in the North Division.
