Appleton, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team closed out their 2014 season with a pair of losses at Lawrence University on Saturday, falling 6-5 in the first game and 8-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener the Vikings scored twice in the first to jump on top before Megan Salm cut the deficit in half with her second home run of the season in the second. LU added another run in the bottom of the second and three more in the third to make it 6-1. But the Bucs chipped away, scoring single runs in the next four innings. They plated an unearned run in the fourth and Salm drove in Taurie Burns with a single in the fifth. Tara Grode's triple in the sixth scored April Apfelbaum to make it 6-4 and the Emily Dorjath hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Praises Vega and make it a one-run game. But that was as close as they could get with the tying run stranded on first.
Salm had three hits in the game whilr Dorjath and Burns both had two.
In game two Lawrence again scored two in the first and added another run in the third to make it 3-0. Dorjath doubled and Mikayla Martin hit a sacrifice fly in the Beloit fourth to make it a 3-2 game. But LU shut down the Buccaneers the rest of the way while adding two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Salm had two more hits in the game to give her five on the day.
Grode and Vega both played their final game for Beloit.
