Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Softball team dropped two close games at Carroll University on Wednesday, falling 2-0 and 6-4 in Midwest Conference play.
In the opener Beloit had five hits, all singles, while Carroll scored solo runs in the first and sixth for the shutout. Jen Zucker gave up just three hits while striking out five and walking one in the complete game.
In game two the Pioneers scored twice in the first inning but the Buccaneers tied it up in the second on Mikayla Martin's second home run of the season, scoring Emily Dorjath. CU retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning and added three in the third to move up 6-2. Beloit cut the deficit to three in the fifth on Emelie Thern's second home run of the season and added a final run in the seventh when Tara Grode singled in Thern. After Grode's run-scoring hit the Bucs had the bases loaded with one out but a strikeout and a groundout ended the comeback effort.
Grode and Thern each had three hits in the game while Taurie Burns had two.
Beloit closes out the 2014 season this weekend with an MWC doubleheader at Lawrence University in Appleton. Action begins at 12:00 noon.
