Green Bay, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team salvaged the second game of a Midwest Conference doubleheader vs. St. Norbert College 9-7 on Monday after falling in the opener 10-0, dropping the series 3-1 at Johannes Stadium.
In the win, Tyler Peacock's single scored Zach Jenkins in the second inning to put the Bucs on top. After SNC tied it with a run in the bottom of the second Beloit scored four in the third to take the lead for good. RBI singles by Alex Lawrence, Austin Martinez and Jenkins made it 4-1 before Martinez scored on a wild pitch. Ethan Blumenthal's three-run home run in the fourth, his second round-tripper of the series, made it 8-1 after four.
The Green Knights cut into the lead with two in the sixth and another in the seventh before the Bucs scored their final run in the ninth on a Martinez run-scoring single, making it 9-4 with three outs to get for the win. St. Norbert made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth, getting a three-run home run and bringing the tying run to the plate with two out. But a flyout to center gave Beloit the win.
Blumenthal, Lawrence and Martinez all had three hits in the game while Jenkins and Sean Little each had two. Patrick McKnight got the mound win, giving up five hits in six innings of work. All three runs he allowed were unearned.
In the opener, SNC scored five runs in the first for all the runs they'd need. They added single runs in the second, fourth and sixth before a two-run home run in the seventh ended the game early. The Buccaneers managed just five hits in the game, with Kam Sallee getting two of them.
