Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 21-11 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference decision to Concordia University at Strong Stadium on Thursday night.
The opening minutes of the game were close as the teams traded goals. But the Falcons broke away from a 3-3 tie with back-to-back scores and never trailed again. Hannah Drexler pulled the Bucs back within 5-4 midway through the half before CUW rattled off seven of the next eight goals to build a 12-5 lead at the break. Libby Storrick had three goals in the opening 30 minutes while Celeste Jenkins made seven saves in net.
Beloit mounted a threat in the first 10 minutes of the second half, pulling to within 13-8 after two goals by Sara Fithian and one from Drexler. But, again, Concordia put together a run, this one stretching to five unanswered goals before Michelle Dillon got the Bucs back in the scoring column, making it 18-9 with 9:23 left. After a CUW goal the Buccaneers pulled to within nine again at 19-10 with 6:02 remaining on scores from Dillon and Fithian. But the Falcons closed the game with two goals in the last 5:26 for the final score.
Fithian finished with four goals and Storrick three to go with Dillon's and Drexler's two. Marie Bonine took over in goal in the second half and made six saves.
Beloit finishes up the home portion of its season on Saturday afternoon when they host Aurora University in a 1:00 p.m. game at the Stadium.
