Winter Haven, FL -- The Beloit College Softball team did not have a very good day at the Rebel Spring Games on Thursday, dropping a pair of games. They fell to Thomas More College of Kentucky 8-4 in the opener and then 9-1 to Geneva College in the nightcap.
In the Thomas More game the Saints jumped on top with a run in the first and added two more in the second. The Bucs cut into the lead on Emily Dorjath's RBI single in the top of the fourth, scoring Tala Cornell, but TMC answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-1.
Beloit finally got their offense going in the sixth, scoring three runs with a run-scoring single by Cornell, a sacrifice fly by Tara Grode and an RBI groundout by Mikayla Martin. But that was as close as they could get. Thomas More added one more in the sixth before the Buccaneers went down in order in the seventh to end it.
Against Geneva, the Golden Tornadoes scored two in the top of the first on three hits to take the lead for good. The Bucs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second when Megan Salm's long double plated Dorjath, who had reached on an error. Buit that was the extent of the Buccaneer offense as GC scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth and one more in the sixth to end it early.
Grode's two hits led the offense.
Beloit closes out their trip on Friday morning with two more games, playing the College of Staten Island in a make-up for their Wednesday rain-out at 7:30 a.m. and then Albion College of Michigan at approximately 9:00 a.m.
