Buccaneer Men's BasketballBeloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team fell victim to a poor stretch going into halftime and couldn't make up the difference in a 76-65 loss to Carroll University in Flood Arena on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers held a narrow lead for 13-plus minutes of the first half before the Pioneers broke away from an 18-all tie at the 6:44 mark with a 9-2 run that put them up 27-23 at the break.

Carroll steadily stretched that four-point halftime advantage into a double-figure lead heading to the midway point of the second half, with the largest lead coming with 13:48 left at 46-32.  Beloit climbed back within eight points several times, the last with 6:12 remaining, but could get no closer.

Beloit shot 50% from the field to Carroll's 54.3% and hit four three-pointers to CU's two but made just 15 of 24 free throws while Carroll hit 24 of 29.  The rebound margin also went the Pioneers' way 30-22.

James Lazarcik tied a career high with 33 points, 27 of them in the second half, and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.  Steve McAfee and Rudy Bentley each added eight points, Bentley with five assists.

The Bucs close out the 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon when they host Cornell College in a 1:00 p.m. tip in Flood.  It'll be Senior Day with Beloit's seven seniors being recognized prior to the game.
