Two School Records Highlight Buccaneers' First Day at MWC Championships

2014 MWC SwimmingGrinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Swimming & Diving team set a couple of new relay school records to highlight their first day at the Midwest Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday.  The meet is being run at Grinnell College.

Both the Buccaneer Women and Men stood eighth in the team standings after the opening day.

The Men's 200 Free Relay team of Will McAneny, Arthur Staub, Jon Kamada and Austin Smith broke Beloit's one-year-old record with a 1:29.79 in the prelims on Friday morning.  The foursome finished sixth in the evening finals. 

Friday evening the Women's 400 Medley Relay of Amalia Dolan, Shaunte Moss, Dana Olesch and Nora Holte broke the 2005 record with a 4:17.14 while finishing sixth in the finals.

Also scoring points for the Bucs were McAneny, ninth in the 50 Free; Kamada, 14th in the 200 IM; Staub, 15th in the 50 Free; and Olesch, 16th in the 200 IM.

The Women's 200 Free Relay of Moss, Haleigh Thomas, Olesch and Holte finished eigthth while the Men's 400 Medley Relay of McAneny, Kamada, Smith and Staub was seventh.

Day two of the Championships continue on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the finals slated for 5:30 p.m.
