Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team shot 51.5% in the opening half on Wednesday in Flood Arena. Unfortunately Lawrence University shot a sizzling 74.2% on the way to a damaging 97-83 loss for the Bucs.
The game was close through the first 11 minutes, with seven ties. But the Vikings stormed away from a 28-28 game with 9:04 left in the half, going on a 30-12 run that led to a 58-43 lead at the break.
That surge was enough to decide the game early on. Though LU cooled to 44% shooting in the second half while the Buccaneers shot 47.2%, Beloit never got closer than 12 points, and that came with a minute left.
Steve McAfee and James Lazarcik both finished with double-doubles, McAfee scoring 28 points and grabbing 10 rebounds and Lazarcik hitting for 21 points with 15 rebounds. The Bucs finished the game shooting 49.3% from the field while Lawrence ended at 60.7%, including making 14 three-pointers.
The Buccaneers look to get back on the right track Saturday at Knox College in their final road game of the season. Tipoff is at 3:00 p.m.
