Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Lacrosse team, getting ready to begin their second season, has been picked to finish sixth in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference. The preseason poll is based on a vote of head coaches in the 11-team league and was released by the Conference Office on Wednesday morning.
Defending Champion Augustana College was tabbed to repeat, garnering 10 first-place votes, followed by Carthage College, North Central College and Concordia University. Mount St. Joseph College was picked fifth followed by the Buccaneers, who grabbed the final first-place vote.
Aurora University was picked seventh, followed by Fontbonne University, Benedictine University, Loras College and the University of Dubuque in 11th. Both Loras and Dubuque are entering their inaugural seasons in the league.
The Bucs, under second-year head coach Meredith Newman, return nine players from last season's inaugural squad, which finished 4-7 overall and 2-6 in the Conference.
Beloit opens its 2014 season on Monday, March 3, when they host Wilmington College at 4:30 p.m. at Strong Stadium.
