Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team finally broke away from a tight game on Saturday and scored a 75-61 Midwest Conference win over Monmouth College in Flood Arena.
The Buccaneers looked to be taking over the contest in the final minutes of the opening half, using a 12-2 run to open a 12-point lead with under two minutes left. But Monmouth closed the half with a 5-1 spurt to make it 36-28, Beloit, at the break.
Beloit again pushed their lead out to 10 points early in the second half but MC put together a 10-2 run to close within two with 13:22 left. The game stayed close for the next 10 minutes until the Buccaneers, leading 60-57 with 3:55 remaining, closed the game with a 15-4 run to coast in.
James Lazarcik finished with 26 points, 20 in the second half, and 12 rebounds to lead the way. Tyler Butke added 12 points and Langston Booker equaled his career-high with 11. Rudy Bentley chipped in nine points while playing the entire 40 minutes.
The Bucs shot 54.3% for the game, 57.7% in the opening half.
Beloit has a couple of practices before getting back on the road, traveling to Ripon College on Tuesday night for a 5:30 p.m. MWC game.
