Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team knew they had a tough task in front of them on Wednesday night in Flood Arena. And it proved to be just that in a 76-56 loss to 11th-ranked St. Norbert College.
Beloit hung close through the majority of the opening half. But the Green Knights broke away from a 23-all tie at the 9:01 mark to close out the half on a 15-5 run to give them a 38-28 halftime advantage.
An 8-2 spurt out of the lockerroom made it 46-30 three minutes into the second half. But the Buccaneers responded with a 16-6 run of their own over the next six minutes to pull back within 52-46 with 11:10 left. SNC ended any ideas of an upset when they followed Beloit's run with a 12-0, three-minute run that gave them a 64-46 lead with 8:41 remaining. The Bucs never got closer than 15 the rest of the way as both coaches cleared their benches.
Tyler Butke led Beloit with 14 points while Langston Booker and James Lazarcik each added 11, Lazarcik with a game-high six rebounds. Steve Dowden had nine points on three three-pointers and Rudy Bentley dished out seven assists. The Bucs shot 47.8% for the game.
The Buccaneers look to get going in the right direction on Saturday when they host Monmouth College. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
