Bucs Run Out of Comebacks, Fall at Carroll

Buccaneer Men's BasketballWaukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team came up one comeback short in a 67-54 loss at Carroll University on Tuesday night.

The Pioneers scored the first 10 points of the game before Beloit got their legs under them with a six-point run to get back in the contest.  The Buccaneers kept chipping away and finally tied the score at 18 with 5:10 left in the half.  A 7-2 run then put them up 25-20 at the 2:47 mark before CU closed the half with a 5-2 spurt, giving the Bucs a 27-25 advantage at the break.

Carroll continued their run out of the lockerroom with a 16-2 explosion that gave them a 41-29 lead six minutes into the second half,  Beloit responded with a 14-4 run that pulled them back within two at 45-43 with 7:55 remaining.  But the Pioneers then put together the game's deciding run, a 10-2 stretch that put them up 55-45 with just under four minutes remaining.  The Buccaneers never got closer than six points - with 2:04 left - after that as CU hit free throws down the stretch for the final score.

James Lazarcik battled through foul trouble to lead the Bucs with 17 points and grab eight rebounds.  Tyler Butke added 16 points.  Beloit shot just 41.8% from the field, including 2-14 from three-point, and made just six of nine free throws.  Carroll hit 60.5% of the shots.

The Buccaneers have some time off before returning to Flood Arena for the first time in more than a month on Wednesday, January 22, to host nationally-ranked St. Norbert College.  Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
