Jacksonville, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team came up just short of completing their comeback, dropping a 66-63 Midwest Conference decision at Illinois College on Saturday.
IC led from the start, hitting a pair of threes out of the gate and building a 15-6 lead five minutes in. But the Bucs put together an 11-5 run over the next six minutes to pull them back to within 20-17. Beloit got within one several times over the next seven minutes before tying it at 29-all with 1:30 left. The Lady Blues led 31-29 at the break.
A 13-8 run by Illinois College out of the lockerroom gave them a 44-37 lead eight minutes into the second half but the Buccaneers never lost contact, finally pulling to within 59-56 with under three minutes remaining.
A pair of free throws by Lauren McNanna with 15 seconds left made it 65-63. After a made free throw by IC with 13 seconds left the Bucs came down the court looking to force overtime. But McNanna's three-pointer fell off the front of the rim at the buzzer.
McNanna led the Bucs with 20 points while Lana Wieseman had 18 and Jenna Larsen 11.
Beloit continues their MWC road trip on Tuesday night at Carroll University. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
