Kenosha, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team ran into a buzz saw in their season opener Wednesday night, falling 94-53 at nationally-ranked Carthage College.
The Lady Reds are ranked 12th in the D3Hoops preseason poll and 22nd in the USA Today Top 25.
Beloit erased an early deficit to pull within 6-5 before CC took off. The deficit hit 20 at the 8:53 mark and 27 in the final minute of the half. Carthage led 54-30 at the break.
The lead went to 30 at 60-30 just over two minutes into the second half and reached it's largest at 41 with 6:41 left.
The Buccaneers shot 34% for the game while Carthage hit at a 57.1% clip. The Lady Reds made 11 three-pointers, eight in the opening 20 minutes.
Laura Panicali had a team-high 11 points in her first collegiate game. Lauren McNanna added nine, Lana Wieseman eight and Leah Kruckman seven.
Beloit looks to reverse the result on Saturday when they open their home season against Elmhurst College at 1:00 p.m. in Flood Arena.
