Ripon, WI – The Midwest Conference released the 2013-14 Preseason Men’s and Women’s Basketball polls today, with the Buccaneer Men’s squad picked to finish third and the Women eighth.
Defending MWC Men’s Champion St. Norbert College received ten of the 11 first place votes in the poll to take the top spot. Carroll University was second in front of the Bucs followed by Grinnell College, who received the remaining first-place vote.
Lawrence was picked fifth, Cornell sixth and Illinois College seventh. Lake Forest was eighth, Ripon ninth, Monmouth tenth and Knox 11th.
The Buccaneers, who finished the 2012-13 season 12-11 overall, 10-8 in the MWC, begin their season under seventh-season head coach Brian Vraney on November 19 at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. The home and MWC opener is scheduled for November 26 against Ripon College in Flood Arena.
Defending MWC Women’s Champion Cornell grabbed ten first-place votes to earn the top spot in the Women’s poll, followed by Monmouth, who received the final first-place vote. St. Norbert was third and Carroll fourth.
Lake Forest was picked fifth followed by Ripon in sixth and Illinois College in seventh in front of the Buccaneers. Knox and Grinnell tied for ninth with Lawrence taking the tenth spot.
The Bucs, who finished 4-19 overall, 3-15 in the MWC last season, begin their 2013-14 campaign under third-year head coach Jennifer McCormick on November 20 at Carthage College. They play their home opener on November 23 against Elmhurst College in Flood Arena and the MWC opener against Ripon on November 26.
