Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team battled to the end in the last two sets but couldn't grab that one break they needed in a 3-0 Midwest Conference-opening loss to Monmouth College on Friday night in Flood Arena.
After the Fighting Scots won the first set 25-12 the Bucs played tight to the end in the second set, pulling to within two at 23-21 before MC took the set 25-23. In the third set Beloit led 22-21 but Monmouth scored four of the last six points for another 25-23 win, ending the match.
Taylor Lewis had nine kills and a .429 attack percentage to lead the Buccaneers at the net. Leah Kruckman had seven kills. Carolyn Stransky had 22 set assists while Josie Lindsey-Robbins had a pair of service aces. Julianne Gruenhagen made 11 digs and Bethany Stavrakas nine while Kruckman had five block assists and Stavrakas three.
The Bucs just have overnight to rest before hosting Knox College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, kicking off Beloit's participation in the MWC's 'Play for the Cure" initiative.
