Buccaneers and Midwest Conference “Play for the Cure” Beginning Friday

Play for the Cure 2013Beloit, WI – In conjunction with the Midwest Conference, the Buccaneers, as well as colleges and universities nationwide, will be “Playing for the Cure” beginning this Friday, October 4, and continuing through Sunday, October 13.

In the Fall the MWC’s “Play for the Cure” encompasses contests for the sports of cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s tennis and volleyball.

The Beloit College Volleyball and Women’s Tennis teams kick off the Bucs’ recognition of the campaign on Saturday.  The Women’s Tennis squad hosts St. Norbert College and Grinnell College at the Strong Complex Courts beginning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning while the Volleyball team hosts Knox College at 1:00 p.m. in Flood Arena.

Next Friday, October 11, the Cross Country team will carry their recognition down to the Benedictine University Eagle Invite in Warrenville, Illinois.  Then on Saturday, October 12, the Buccaneer Football, and Women’s and Men’s Soccer teams will bring out the pink as the Football squad hosts Knox College beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the Soccer teams welcome in Lawrence University, with the Women playing at 1:00 p.m. and the Men at approximately 3:30 p.m.

A variety of different activities will be taking place around the Strong Complex on the 12th, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society is currently funding 11 research grants in the state of Wisconsin totaling just under $7,000,000.   

The MWC will continue the initiative throughout the 2013-2014 season, with the Winter initiative running from February 7-16 and the Spring from April 11-20.  All proceeds from “Play for the Cure” will be donated to various cancer charities for research into its cause, prevention and cure.
